Athlete’s sensorial course

The proprioceptive capability is a fundamental characteristic giving us a self-perception in connection with the external world. In fact, not only the five senses rule our body position in reality, but it is the proprioceptive capability which allows us to feel the movement even with our eyes closed, and allows the body to move better. After a trauma our body finds itself in a particular situation, and can easily lose this capability: the communication grid between the central nervous system and the muscles is locked; the answers are not appropriate. There are exercises and devices which can restore or develop the proprioceptive capabilities.

Here are some examples of exercises:

Original Pezzi® Half Ball Ø cm.14

The course over these half balls, for example, offers neuro-motorial opportunities that train the proprioceptive capability. They can be used both on the flat surface and the convex side and allows performing coordination exercises, flexing and hops according to one’s own level of athletic maturity. Thanks to their shape, they stimulate not only muscles, but also the neuro-muscular system in order to maintain balance.

Original Pezzi® Activa Disc ø cm. 40

The constant use of the Activa Disc promotes the dorsal and abdominal muscular apparatus tonicity and prevent possible injuries to the lower limbs. Activa Disc has been used for many years in athletic preparations in many sport teams.

Original Pezzi® Fit Sit ø cm. 38

The Fit-Sit platforms may be arranged in many different ways and with various inclinations, permitting a selective action in relation to the ankle articulation. Their position can be modified at will, one opposite to the other, with external or internal slopes, in continuous slope changes.
With the tool kit (conforming to the EU Directive 93/42 CEE “medical devices”) whose adjustable inflation is essential, coordination improves, developing the balance range, muscles act correctly, avoiding traumas and articulation damages.
In muscles, tendons and articulations there are some proprioceptive receptors, which govern the postural position. The functionality of these receptors for persons practicing sports is essential, but it is important in our everyday life, also.
The constant exercise, with the sensorial method, permits us to train and tone up specific groups for example, the lower limbs.
Proprioceptive capability is a fundamental component of posture control and stabilization, in other words, the capability to maintain a position in the space.
In order to perform a movement, continuous postural elaborations are requested (particularly important in sports activity): the technical execution requires continuous postural modifications, and without them the athlete would not be able to maintain this athletic performance. Every time our body changes its condition the nervous system develops an answer to the receptors, signaling the change. Then adaptations intervene in order to restore the system. It is an involuntary mechanism automatically applied by the body.
The use of these methods is currently and constantly adopted by several teams, adapting them to the specific needs of the discipline involved.
